The Health Services Program is part of the district pupil services department. It is overseen by the district school nurse. The Palmyra-Eagle Area School District believes the health services department plays an integral role in the overall program of student services. These services are available to all students in the district and will follow state, federal and local laws as well as school board approved administrative policies and guidelines.
The school nurse coordinates all the school district health services including supervising medication administration, emergency response services, routine vision, hearing and other health screenings, developing and implementing individualized health care plans for students with special health care needs. The school nurse's role is to assist in bridging any health barriers to learning.

Palmyra-Eagle Area School District contracts with Fort HealthCare to employ a Registered Nurse part time to provide school related health services district wide. The School Nurse is responsible for coordinating and managing the health needs of individual students during the day, as well as promoting health and safety for all students in the schools.
Illness/Injury:
Minor illness or injury in a student while at school will be taken care of by a health room assistant or other staff member who is trained to handle these situations. In case of a serious illness or injury, district staff will provide basic care and use emergency medical services.
Please keep your student home for 24 hours post fever (>100.4) without the use of fever reducing medication (Tylenol, Advil, ibuprofen). In addition, please keep students home when they have had vomiting or a diarrheal illness for a minimum of 24 hours after their last episode of vomiting or diarrhea. Students will also be sent home from school with these symptoms as they may be contagious to other students and staff.
When calling in a student absence, please be specific on symptoms/illness. This is helpful information when determining if an outbreak of the illness is affecting our school.
Medications:
If it is necessary for your child to receive medication during school hours, specific school district forms must be completed prior to administration of medication. This form is required to be completed annually. For prescription medications, the signatures of a parent/guardian and a health care provider are required. For over-the-counter medications, only a parent signature is required as long as the dosage does not exceed the manufacturer’s recommendations. All prescription medications must be brought to school in the original pharmacy-labeled container. All over-the-counter medications must be in the original packaging as well. No elementary or middle school students may have any medications in their possession while in school. Medications will be kept in a secured area in the health room/office.
You can obtain the Administering Medication to Students form from your student’s school office or on the Palmyra-Eagle Area School District website - Health Services.
Immunizations:
Wisconsin state law requires all public and private school students to present written evidence of immunization against certain diseases within 30 days of admission. These requirements can be waived only if a properly signed health, religious, or personal conviction waiver is filed with the school. You can obtain the Student Immunization Record form from your student’s school office or on the Palmyra-Eagle Area School District website - Health Services.
The following are the minimum required immunizations for each age/grade level according to the Wisconsin Immunization Law. Additional immunizations may be recommended for your child depending on their age. Please contact your health care provider or local health department to determine if your student needs additional immunizations. Parents are also able to access their student’s immunization record on the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) website.
